When you want a football fix in 2003 head to Cincinnati during the first week
of High School Football. When most programs are gearing up for Friday Aug.
22nd. four will hit the field on Thursday Aug. 21st. UC's
Nippert Stadium will host this great event.
This is the Sixth annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown and will start
at 5:30 Thursday, Aug. 21st pitting Cincinnati Princeton with new head
coach Brian Dodds against Roger Bacon. Come see all the questions about
what the Vikings will be running in person. Will they run the
spread? Or will the offense be more out of the I. Will Johnny Long
and DeJuan Johnson have break out seasons and find big time recruiting
interest?
In the second game the defending state champions Cincinnati Elder will start
the chase towards another state crown against Winton Woods at
8:00pm. Can the Panthers repeat? Will Winton Woods with Jamal
Akbar,Nashaun Williams and John Brown have more speed at the skill postions and
put a dent in the Panthers run for another title.
This is just the start of the two day showdown. Saturday will see five
more games with some great match-ups and top names in recruiting for 2003.
Starting at 10:00am. Hamilton will take on La Salle. Hamilton has many
names on the recruiting scene. At the top of the list DB Brandon
Underwood, add RB Adele Givens and DT Masio Bradford in the mix and La Salle
better be ready. Can a new coach help put La Salle back into the mix of
the GCL.
At 12:30 come and see Harrison with Jeff Browning play Lebanon. This
game will match two programs with playoff backgrounds.
At 3:00pm watch Boone County play Colerain. This game will have great
interest for the football fan. Many are talking that Kentucky High School
football is on the rise. Can they beat one of Cincinnati's top teams?
At 5:30 watch Anderson play Moeller. Every team wants a chance to beat
one of the best programs in the history of Ohio High School Football. Can
Anderson with Brandon Wamsley, Kurt Shoemaker and Matt Mullenax bring Big Moe
down. Moeller has seen its program come back and brings a strong team
heading into 2003. Can Ben McGrath give them the leadership at the QB
postion and hit targets like Blake Carter? This should be a game down to
the final gun.
The last game of the Showdown has Covington Catholic and Cincinnati St.
Xavier cracking heads. Can X stay with this top team from Northern
Kentucy? If the Bombers are looking for a great season a win against Cov.
Cath would be a great start.
