With a giant target on their back, Dayton Chaminade-Julienne came into the
Division I Girl's title game as Ohio's and the countries #1 team. That all ended
after falling to Mt. Notre Dame and UConn recruit Mel Thomas. Thomas, named
Ohio's Ms. Basketball this week, didn't disappoint the crowd.
Hitting the floor and never looking back, Mt. Notre Dame looked to its leader
for the points needed and she delivered with a great performance. Thomas would
score 21 points on the night. Not to be out done, her teammate Lee Stephens also
found the stroke and scored 20 points during the victory.
For CJ, the hard play of Aisha Jefferson wasn't enough, and when she fouled
out in the fourth quarter, hopes of a comeback were dashed. Jefferson scored 21
points and pulled down 7 boards on the night. Maria Getty would score 11 in the
Eagles first loss this season.
Mt. Notre Dame would shot 47.5% while the Eagles struggled with 37.2% on the
night. CJ ends their season with a 26-1 mark, while Mt. Notre Dame ends with a
28-0 record and a sure move up the national rankings.
