Over the past year, we have followed the career of Kettering Alters, Zach Freshwater. Zach has experienced several things that few high school athletes
can claim.
When we first looked at Zach, we wrote about his ability on the football
field. A top receiver in the GCL, Zach posted high numbers despite playing for a
run oriented team. By the end of his football career for the Knights, Zach had
recorded 70 receptions for 1,414 yards. That gave Zach a 20.2 per reception
average. Zach also scored 12 touchdowns and provided blocking support in the
running game. His play earned him 1st Team All GCL in his junior and senior
seasons.
Zach didn't stop there; he also provided leadership for the Knights on the
hardwood. You might remember, Zach played for a state championship in 2003
against Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and LeBron James. By having a great senior
season, Zach earned the double-double by also being named 1st Team All GCL in
basketball.
While Zach has seen his Knight career end, a new one is on the horizon
starting this fall. Zach will be part of the first football team at Ohio
Dominican University. After looking at several schools, Zach told OPS, "I had
several options, but the idea of being a part of a new program and playing in a
pass first offense was a big part in my decision. I'm very impressed with Ohio
Dominicans schedule and level of competition."
In talking with Coach Oliver of Ohio Dominican, you could sense the
excitement he got by adding Zach's name to the list of other top players from
Ohio. Coach Oliver told OPS, "We recruited Zach very hard. During the process,
we knew several schools had him high on their list. Zach provides us another key
piece in an already great recruiting class. He's a big time prospect and a
player we value greatly, I can't stress how important the Dayton area has been
for our program this past year. We signed several big time players from some of
the Miami Valleys top prep programs. When you start talking about Kettering
Alter, Wayne and Covington, you know you're getting top kids who have been
coached very well and are ready to compete."
The staff at OPS wishes Zach the best during his days at Ohio Dominican, and
would like to thank Zach and his father for keeping us in touch with the
recruiting process.
