Well it's that time again, time for colleges to start passing out offers to
many of Ohio's top players. Each school has different reasons for picking the
time in making offers. Ability on the field, as well as classroom work can place
some players above others.
That's the case with Troy High School prospect Ryan Custer. With great work
in the classroom, and his development on the field, Ryan is getting some early
interest. This week, Ryan received a written offer from Duke.
This ACC School, better known for its academics and basketball program then
football victories, is looking to turn the table. While wins have been few, it's
still a school that many athletes must give serious consideration. Many consider
Duke, the Stanford of the East. Located in beautiful North Carolina, Duke is
known for its great campus atmosphere and academic excellence.
During the 2003 season, the Blue Devils had six Ohio natives on their
football roster. And head coach Ted Roof is looking to place them in the hunt of
the ACC. In what will be a tough task, Coach Roof knows top student athletes are
needed to get the job done. And any top student athlete from Ohio is considered
a prize recruit.
With the growth of the ACC, that job just got harder. Coach Roof took over
the Head Coaching duties on an interim basis during the 2003 season. During a
five game span, the Blue Devils posted victories over Georgia Tech and North
Carolina. Those wins, help him land the job on a fulltime basis.
The biggest improvement in the Blue Devils has come from the defensive side
of the ball. The team has shown steady improvement and things are looking up for
the program as a whole. Many coaches feel Coach Roof is the man to build a
strong and competitive program in the heart of basketball country.
OPS will be talking with Ryan about this offer, and about his recruiting. We
will also have a film breakdown of Ryan coming very soon. Look for this to be
one of many offers to come.
Troy High School will have at least two D-I college football recruits in 2004. One just received his first offer. See who it's from, and why its a hard school to look at.
