Within the last decade, AAU basketball-the generic term most often associated with travel/select basketball-has exploded onto the American scene. With the arrival of AAU basketball, thousands of kids have been introduced to a higher level of competition, which prior the 1980s, was nonexistent. With the growing popularity of summer basketball has come some less than desirable side effects, which threaten to erode the game itself.
