Columbus, Ohio: The stars came ready to play
during the 59th annual Ohio All-Star Classic played at Crew Stadium. With many
of college footballs future stars in the game, this contest was sure to be a classic
battle.
The South with its talented offensive line and offensive threats looked to
overpower the South on both sides of the field. Led by quarterback Grant Gregory
the South found a great combo in with the Athens, Ohio native and Clayton
Northmont receiver Romunn (Ro) Grigsby. The two hooked up for touchdown passes
of 16 and 28 on the night. Grigsby would score 3 touchdowns and total 175 yards
on five catches with the best being a 48 yard lateral from Westerville South's
Nick Moore. For his performance Grigsby would be named Game MVP.
Gregory would hit on 8 of his 14 pass attempts for 202 yards and show his
athletic ability during an 80 yard touchdown run in helping the South defeat the
North 44-28. Now you see why OPS rated this young man so high. The game was
dominated by the South as they gained 220 yards on first downs during the first
half of the contest.
Erik Haw would also score two touchdowns on the ground (1, 3 yards) in the
fourth to seal the South victory.
The North would see Toledo Start receiver Asante White make 3 catches and
score on two (63,12 yards) of them. Miles Williams and Edwin Hood each would
score and help the North to a short lead. How short? The South countered when
Gary Russell pulled in a Gregory screen pass and went 53 yards followed by the G
& G connections 16 yard TD play. This score gave the South a 17-14 advantage
and they never looked back.
If you're not ready for football after a night like this, then you're not a
football fan. Get ready, the next game is the Big 33 in July.
